Supervillain Supervillain: Breaking the Boundary Between Web2 and Web3

Supervillain Labs' Head of Technology, KS, emphasized that our focus is on providing a simple user experience that allows players to build trust through on-chain transparency.

Inventory plays an essential role in the game world.

It is like a player's personal vault, which holds the various items, potions and gold coins they have accumulated over the course of their digital adventures. As such, effective inventory management is critical to capitalizing on the assets gained throughout the gaming experience.

However, there is a serious weakness in this system: the control and ownership of inventory content is entirely in the hands of the game developer. This setup could lead to a sudden large number of items on the market, or the trading of counterfeit items. In addition, if the game service is terminated, all items stored in the inventory will disappear, leaving the player empty-handed.

This dilemma, which prevents players from recovering the time and money they have invested in their virtual collectibles, is a widespread concern in the gaming community. The issue has become a contentious topic on gaming forums, highlighting the urgent need for the early adopter community to embrace Web3 as the new future.

At Supervillain Labs, our mission is to develop engaging games that not only entertain but also provide substantial value to players. To achieve this goal, we are exploring an initiative designed to transform traditional game inventories by integrating Web3 technologies.

How would creating a game inventory using Web3 technology be transformative?

As a result, we have focused more on the idea of managing inventory and game items through blockchain technology. This approach ensures the permanence of inventory and items. Since the inventory and its assets are recorded on the blockchain, the user's items and assets can be securely protected.

In addition, players have the ability to claim ownership of their items. Transparent disclosure of the origin and characteristics of items through blockchain ensures the reliability and integrity of data.

Despite these innovative concepts, representing complex relationships between game items in smart contracts is indeed a real challenge. Fortunately, we have technical solutions to this problem. By utilizing Aptos'Digital Asset Standard (Tokens as Objects)and Move languages, we are able to accurately capture the complexity and dynamics of the relationships between game items.

Figure 1: Web2 Accounts and Web3 Inventory

This illustration emphasizes the connection between the Web3 inventory and the items depicted in Web3. For example, the Web3-based inventory is assigned a blockchain address 0xA. Items belonging to this inventory, such as NFT, have different addresses, such as 0xB and 0xC. An important aspect to observe is the ownership relationship.

By focusing on mapping these ownership connections through a digital asset standard, we can directly characterize the complex data dependencies between game items that exist in traditional game domains.

This was the central motivation for the launch of Supervillain Inventory.

This system issues an inventory token to the user immediately upon entering the game, which is produced as a Token Object. While this token remains in the user's wallet, its management is retained by the game company. Additionally, any Game Items collected by the User during gameplay are immediately associated with their Inventory.

Our goal is to provide users with a seamless experience, ensuring that the creation of inventory and the procurement of items can be executed smoothly within the framework of the technology. This approach removes the need for users to connect directly to their wallets or deal with transaction fees, especially before they fully understand blockchain technology. The illustration provided shows how NFT items created through the SuperVillain Suitability Test are displayed in Aptos Explorer and on the web.

This innovative system will provide users with an inventory token made as a Token Object as soon as they start playing.

Let's examine this inventory token with the example in the following image from our previous "Supervillain Suitability Test".

The token is stored in an address associated with the user's social account (e.g., Google) and managed by the game company. This approach ensures transparent ownership through on-chain data and provides a seamless gaming experience, allowing players to accumulate assets in their "inventory" as they adventure.

Given that our goal is to "enable everyone to play the game, whether they know about blockchain technology or not," the process of creating inventory and acquiring items is seamless from the moment you first enter the game, with no need for users to connect to a wallet or pay blockchain transaction fees.

So what about the ownership aspect?

As previously emphasized, it is important to note that our process does not require a separate wallet connection or payment of transaction fees in order to allow for greater participation.

This strategy is designed to provide a smooth experience for new players who are new to the Web3 environment, with the goal of seamlessly integrating the domains of Web2 and Web3.

Therefore, without a wallet connection, ownership of items in the Supervillain Inventory is initially maintained by the service provider, similar to a traditional game inventory system. However, as shown below, users can easily transfer ownership by connecting their wallets. Importantly, there are no blockchain transaction fees charged to users for this transition process in our system.

Asset import/export functionality will soon be implemented in the system. In addition, during the "Supervillain Suitability Test" campaign, we will allow users to enjoy the benefits of exporting without gas charges.

We're also excited about the upcoming pass concept with the Aptos network to further streamline these steps - but most importantly, we'll find the best way for gamers to do what they like best.

The next big thing is coming.

Our goal is to enhance the gaming experience for our community by combining the game's rich storyline with the technological possibilities offered by the Web3 space. The creation of the "Supervillain Inventory" marks the first leap towards realizing our vision.

Now the real fun begins. Who's ready?
