Overlai, a Property Rights Solution for Creator-Artists Against AI

Overlai is a platform focused on protecting digital property and intellectual property that has been in the Aptos Blockchainlaunched a beta version of its mobile app and Adobe plugin on

The technology works by scanning media and placing an "invisible watermark" on its metadata. This invisible watermark is then recorded on the Aptos blockchain, providing an immutable record of ownership.

A spokesperson for the project explained that ownership is retained no matter how many times the media is compressed, screenshotted or converted, and that ownership remains the same no matter where the media is posted online or elsewhere.

Luke Neumann, co-founder and CEO of Overlai, said the company's goal is to become a one-stop store for copyright and other intellectual property protection in the digital age: "We want this platform to set a new standard for ingredient tracking, royalty payments, and provenance. Our partnership with Aptos is crucial, as their expertise in this area is already being used to leverage blockchain technology to play a key role in the future of internet content."

The core focus of Overlai's mission is to protect artists and creatives from AI crawling, the process by which AI programs and algorithms search the Internet and use media to train AI.

Neumann said, "Overlai's end-to-end decentralized infrastructure will provide the ability to opt in or out of AI training for the next phase of ethically sourced models."

AI training methods are involuntary, and AI operators typically do not obtain the consent of media or IP creators, copyright holders or stakeholders before using their IP for AI training purposes.

Overlai's product reportedly blocks AI crawling by issuing a "no-training" C2PA manifest as an always-on, comprehensive protection against AI crawling bots using protected media for training or content generation purposes.

Avery Ching, CTO of Aptos Labs, echoed Neumann's sentiments and reiterated the importance of protecting content creators.Ching said, "It's important to make sure that creators are able to retain ownership of their assets and feel empowered by AI rather than shackled. "
